Home-made semester project

During the COVID period, we were assigned a university project to design a seating object based on architectural principles. My primary goal was to create all the components at home, using basic tools and lightweight, portable materials. All elements used in this project are re-purposed. The most obvious is the rope, while the metal wire was salvaged from old fences. The only new material is the soft wire used for joining. All knitted at home like in old good days
The inspiration for my project is a building by Jean Nouvel - Louvre Abu Dhabi. The whole essence of this building lies in its special frame structure. By translating observations and analysis of this element, the Braided Stool was created. I wanted to create object as organic and friendly as possible.
It’s hard to say what is the frame, what is the seat - everything intertwines and works together. Key is also the feeling of sitting on it. Since every element has some amount of tension, experience of sitting is very pleasant. It’s bouncy and accommodating to your posture and weight.
The furniture was created entirely at home, using pliers and scissors. The elements can be disassembled at any dismantle them back to their original material form and give them a second life.
