The task set in the competition was to design a self-sufficient restaurant with a greenhouse. Together with the team, we created modular passive units in response. Each unit was designed for 25 people. The shape and materials used were dictated by the local climate. We employed low-tech solutions that significantly increased crop efficiency and the building’s energy efficiency.
Unlike a typical restaurant, in our project, guests have to prepare their own meals. This creates a bond between the guests and local residents, fostering a sense of hospitality and homeliness. Additionally, the facility includes workshop and market areas where residents can sell their agricultural products. The buildings were designed according to the VUCA philosophy – they can easily change their function.
