The new construction of the double kindergarten and daycare facility complements the existing Matt school complex, forming a balanced overall ensemble. The longitudinal side of the building contours the new center of the school unit, offering a protective effect. Connected to Lindenstrasse in the north and Buchenweg in the south, a transverse pathway links the new building along its length, activating the center of the plot.
The vertically structured, green wooden façade integrates thoughtfully among the trees in the landscaped outdoor space. The two-story structure is designed to harmonize with human scale, grounded within the expansive site. Generous windows allow ample natural light to flood the interior and include window niches along the eastern longitudinal side, providing seating areas for children and students.
A simple wooden load-bearing structure enables flexible interior configurations. The repetition of identical structural elements allows for a high degree of prefabrication. Wood, as a CO2-storing, natural, and tactile material, serves as a key design element. Its presence is emphasized throughout, with the visible construction and the use of wood for the façade and interior spaces ensuring that the material remains consistently prominent.
